And The Winner Is...

Award-Winning Artisanal Butters

Amid the 22 categories of entrants in the annual American Cheese Society’s annual competition and judging—which includes the pungent washed rind cheeses, fresh goat’s milk cheeses, age sheep’s milk cheeses, blue mold cheeses, cheddars, et al—is...butter. It’s not exactly the glamour girl among the complex cheeses, many of which go on to win international awards. Yet, in their own category, butter beauties compete in three classes: Salted, Flavor-Added, and Unsalted.

Let’s hear it for “Group R,” and take a look at its 2005 winners. A complete list of winners in every category can be downloaded from the American Cheese Society website.
