Personalized Pops

Celebrate the warm weather by investing in something you’ll use all season long: an ice pop mold. Exercise your creativity and impress guests with your own frozen treats. Homemade lemonade and fresh raspberries make a great combination, as does strawberry yogurt with semi-sweet chocolate chips. Try your hand at multi-layered pops by filling the mold only partially, letting the liquid freeze, then re-opening the molds and filling them with a second (or even third) liquid. For example, try alternating bands of spicy ginger ale and fresh limeade. The endless array of flavor combinations will keep you experimenting throughout the summer. And the brine from pickle bottles makes delicious, refreshing ice pops. Freeze it, don’t toss it! Click here to read more about ice cream and sorbet.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

How many types of pickles are there?

There can be as many types of pickles as there are fruits and vegetables to pickle. Each of the world’s cuisines makes pickles, so there are thousands of varieties. However, in the U.S., a pickle refers to a pickled cucumber, soaked in a brine or vinegar over a period of time, so it ferments. Read about the different types of pickles—dill, gherkin, half sour, sour and more—in our Pickle Glossary. By the way, botanically, cucumbers are a fruit, not a vegetable: They carry their seeds inside.

WELCOME...

to a very special food magazine. Whether you’re a foodie or just like good food, a connoisseur or someone who wants to learn more...we write THE NIBBLE for you.

When you face a wall of 15 brands of gourmet olive oil and vinegar...expensive chocolates and cheeses...20 types of sea salt, dozens of gourmet preserves, tea and other specialties...how do you know what’s good versus what’s great? There are incredible gourmet foods that never make it into food shops—the best smoked hams, amazing cookies and other products—but how do you find them?

Find “The Best of the Best” Specialty Foods

THE NIBBLE is your personal scout, telling you about the new, the noteworthy and the amazing specialty foods and gourmet foods. We save you time and money by tasting more than 3,000 products each year. We then review only the most special of these specialty items...most of which can transform basic foods just by opening the jar. You don’t have to know how to cook (beyond basic boiling and broiling). And you don’t have to be a gourmet or have a lavish lifestyle, since most of the foods we write about are perfect for everyday meals and affordable by just about anyone. The products are generally available by mail order, so you can get them no matter where you live.

An Overview Of The Nibble

This is the home page of The Nibble, "Great Food Finds," a gourmet food magazine and website for people who love to eat and drink the very best specialty foods. It focuses on product reviews of specialty foods and beverages, with detailed education, related product recipe and shopping information. We are not a restaurant review or a cooking technique and recipe website; but people who seek that kind of information will enjoy what they find here. In addition to the monthly magazine, which is read online at this website, there is a Top Pick Of The Week e-newsletter (a.k.a. e-zine, ezine or zine) available by email.

The gourmet food we review can help you put together exciting meals for any course—for an everyday menu or entertaining menu, for a party or a special event. They include specialty food items for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, plus cocktails and snacks. Whether you’re looking for appetizers, entrees or desserts, we’ve tasted them, weeded out the average, and recommend those that are worth your time and money.
