Holland Mints

An Homage To Holland From California

Some restaurants offer a mint bowl filled with Holland Mints—the pastel, marble-size chocolate and mint delights with a hard sugar coating—instead of the softer, plainer butter mints. We love going to those restaurants, and generally find the Holland Mints to be more satisfying than whatever we ordered for dessert.

The original and best Holland Mints come from Marich Confectionary Company, a manufacturer of quality classic candies in California. When co-founder Marinus van Dam was 15 years old, he began working in a candy factory in his native Holland. A creamy peppermint center is dipped in dark chocolate and coated with a minty sugar shell. They have crunch, mint, and chocolate—and don’t melt in your hand. Who could want for more?

And, the mints look great in a candy dish, converting the plainest glass bowl into a work of art.

At $7.99 or $8.99, Holland Mints also are an inexpensive but high perceived-value gift for:

  • Hosts/hostesses
  • Group of people (e.g. at Mother’s Day and Christmas celebrations)
  • Party favors

Seasonal colors are available from Marich.com for Valentines Day (pink, red and white), Easter (pink, lavender, yellow and white) and Christmas (red, green and white).

For wedding favor boxes or other party favors, the mints can be ordered in bulk in either assorted or single colors (white, pink, lavender or green).

Marich has been making fine classic candies for some 55 years, and if you like candy, you’ll enjoy looking at all the varieties on their website (including excellent sugar-free candies).

The company isn’t a household name because about 70 percent of its business is private label: they sell their candy in bulk to candy stores, or package it with the name of the candy store or gift shop. You can buy it direct from their online store, or look for it at retailers (just be sure to ask if it’s Marich—while Marich has a trademark on the term, other companies can make similar-looking products).

If you’re a mint lover, you’ll love having these mints in your life. Just a few are very satisfying when you need a sweet fix, and they don’t break the calorie bank.

It’s a double-edged sword, though. With Marich Holland Mints available at your house, more people may be stopping by just for that mint bowl.
