Granola Bar Reviews

Eddie’s Energy Bars

Bars are soft, cake-like, and somewhat chewy, with a distinct tangy aftertaste—probably from the yogurt used to make them. EddiesEnergy.com.

  • Cranberry Orange. First ingredient: honey. Visible orange zest and dried cranberries add color here. Some grain presence. Not too sweet. Not bad. Per bar (3 ozs.): 240 calories, 28 calories from fat, 1 mg cholesterol, 162 mg sodium, 4g fiber, 9g protein.
  • Cranberry Almond. First ingredient: honey. Lots of dried cranberries dot this bar, but the flavor of almond extract is overpowering. Per bar (3 ozs.): 232 calories, 29 calories from fat, 1 mg cholesterol, 170 mg sodium, 4 g fiber, 9 g protein.
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. First ingredient: peanut butter. The first taste is of peanut butter, fading into that yogurt tang. Chocolate chips are a nice counterpoint here. Not bad. Per bar (2.2 ozs.): 234 calories, 83 calories from fat, no cholesterol, 186 mg sodium, 3g fiber, 8g protein.

18 Rabbits Delectable Granola Bars

Note that the website is slightly confusing. The homepage contains the wording “Certified Organic by CCOF.” However, while the majority of their ingredients are certified organic, the bars themselves are not. 18Rabbits.com.

  • Cheeky Cherry Chocolate. “This bar is more than 82% organic.” “Wheat Free, Sodium Free, Good Source of Fiber, Non-GMO, No Trans Fats.” First ingredient: Gracious Granola (first ingredient of Gracious Granola is oats). Some chewiness, with an oaty texture. Some very large chunks of cherries and a discernible chocolate presence. I could swear there’s a mild spice taste here but that’s not reflected in the ingredients. Recommended. Per bar (54g): 239 calories, 106 calories from fat, 4g saturated fat, 4mg cholesterol, 2mg sodium, 4g fiber, 12g sugars, 4g protein.
  18 Rabbits Granola Bar
18 Rabbits granola bars are wheat free.
  • Haute Diggity Date. “This bar is more than 88% organic.” “Wheat Free, Sodium Free, No Refined Sugars, Rich in Fiber, No Trans Fat, Non-GMO.” This bar manages to have a texture that’s a cross between chewy and light. You’ll taste the dates and their sweetness. Recommended. Per bar (54g): 220 calories, 80 calories from fat, 4g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 3mg sodium, 4g fiber, 13g sugars, 4g protein.
  • Nibble A Sultana. “This bar is more than 91% organic.” “Wheat free, Dairy Free, 410mg Omega-3’s, Non-GMO, Very Low Sodium, No Refined Sugars, No Trans Fat.” First ingredient: Veritas Granola (first ingredient of that is oats). Slightly sticky to the touch. Chewy and oaty; not enough dried fruit. Pleasant but doesn’t have that much flavor. The cacao nibs are an interesting idea, but they do nothing for the bar. Per bar (54g): 220 calories, 80 calories from fat, 2.5g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 5mg sodium, 4g fiber, 9g sugars, 4g protein.

General Mills Fiber One Chewy Bars (Oats & Chocolate)

“35% Daily Value of Fiber, 8 g or more whole grains per serving.” Per bar (40 g): 140 calories, 35 calories from fat, 1.5 g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 90 mg sodium, 9 g fiber, 10 g sugars, 2 g protein. First ingredient: chicory root extract. Standard-looking supermarket bar with a thin line of chocolate drizzle atop and mini chocolate chips both clustered on the bottom and scattered throughout the bar. Light, crisp/chewy texture with some oat presence. A bit salty. Not distinguished and contains a few ingredients (such as high fructose corn syrup) that I can do without. FiberOne.com
