The Health Nut Granola Bars
Looking like building blocks of energy, The Health Nut Bars from the Sunrise Granola Company are smaller—and that’s a good thing. All photography by Hannah Kaminsky | THE NIBBLE.

Stewart’s Artisan Breads Granola Bars

No nutrition information. First ingredient: dried fruit. You might be able to guess that these bars have enough dried fruit for me, given that it’s the first ingredient. These are minimally-processed, large-ish bars in which you can see many of the component ingredients. Bars are slightly sticky to the touch and crumblier than most. Great oat and seed presence, excellent color and flavor from the dried fruit and a touch of almond extract. Recommended. No e-commerce. To purchase, send an email inquiry to Stewart Pequigno at pequigno@msn.com. Click here to see a photo of these beautiful bars on another page of this review.

Sweet Salvation Handcrafted Food Bar

“80% Organic, Unprocessed, No Added Sugar, Non-GMO, Dairy Free.” First ingredient: rolled oats. No fruit is used in this bar. Crispy, crunchy, and chewy from two grains and four different seeds. A little sweet and a little salty. Very pleasant. Recommended. Per bar (89.6g or 3.2 oz.): 370 calories, 182 fat calories, 2g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 113mg sodium, 5g fiber, 19g sugars, 8g protein. No mail orders—sorry!—but if you’re in Tempe Arizona, stop by Bunna Coffee Tea &  Market at 7520 South Rural Road (shopping plaza) and load up.

The HealthNut Bar: The Sunrise Granola Company

  • The HealthNut Bar (Apricot Almond). First ingredient: almonds. Chewy/crunchy, with good presence of nuts, grains, and seeds. You can see the bits of dried apricot. Not bad. Per 1/2  bar (57g or 2 oz.): 245 calories, 135 calories from fat, 2g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 100mg sodium, 3g fiber, 12g sugars, 7 g protein.
  • The HealthNut Bar (Cranberry Almond). First ingredient: almonds. Slightly sticky to the touch. Chewy and crunchy. As with the Apricot Almond Bar, you can clearly see the dried fruit. Not bad. Per 1/2 bar (57g or 2 oz.): 245 calories, 135 calories from fat, 3g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 100mg sodium, 4g fiber, 12g sugars, 7g protein.
  • The HealthNut Bar (Papaya Coconut). Per 1/2 bar (57g or 2 oz.): 255 calories, 135 calories from fat, 3g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 10mg sodium, 4 g fiber, 12g sugars, 7g protein. First ingredient: almonds. Strong, sweet coconut taste. Chewy, but also crisp and crunchy from puffed rice and other seeds and nuts. The best of the three. Recommended.
