Caring Candies: Sugar Free Hard Candy

Sugar Free Candy With Plenty Of Taste

CAPSULE REPORT: With delicious, all-natural, sugar-free lollipops for kids and hard candies (bonbons) for adults, Caring Candies shows how much it cares about people who can’t have regular sugar. The sugar-free candy is excellent, with no off flavors and beautiful natural colors. The line is diabetes-friendly, tooth-friendly and certified kosher. This is Page 1 of a two-page article. Introduction

It’s tough to be a kid (or an adult) with allergies, ADS, ADHD, juvenile diabetes or some other condition (too much tooth decay?) that denies you the ability to enjoy a lollipop. While all your friends are scarfing down the sweets, you’ve got to abstain or eat some not-so-great-tasting sweetened candies.

Other parts of the world are way ahead of U.S. manufacturers in making sugar-free candies that taste as good as their sucrose-laden counterparts (or even better, since most “regular” candy is so cloyingly sweet.

Enter Caring Candies, a South African-based company that does care about creating fun, tasty hard candy for those who can’t have sugar. Their candies are deliciously flavored with isomalt, a sugar alcohol. Sugar alcohols, also known as polyols, contain no alcohol. They occur naturally in foods and are derived from plant products such as fruits and berries. As a sugar substitute, they have from half to one-third fewer calories than sugar, and a glycemic index of 9 (the G.I. of both sugar and maple syrup is 65, honey is 58, agave is 32 and fructose is 20).

Caring Candies are 100% free from corn, dairy, eggs, peanuts, rice, sesame, soy, sugar, tree nuts, wheat and yeast. The candies are colorful, all-natural (no artificial colors, no preservatives), gluten-free and even kosher. The products are distributed in the U.S. by The Really Healthy Stuff Company.

Sugar-Free Lollipops  & Candy
Canes

Want lollipops? You can have them in short or tall spirals, with vivid colors that are a carnival on a stick.

The portions are small but satisfying; the candy portion of the lollipops in the photo at right, for example, are about 2" x 1/2".

Flavors are both sweet and tart, in accordance with kids’ preferences for the tart stuff. The Kidz Lollipops are an assortment of apple, grape, lemon, pineapple-orange and raspberry. The Spiralz sour assortment includes sour cherry, sour lemon, sour grape and sour tangerine. The sweet Spiralz are twists of the Kidz flavors.

Colorful candy canes are available in a set of three: mint, passion fruit and raspberry.

  Sugar Free Lollipops
Sweet-tart Sour Spiralz lollipops are sweet-hearts. While they may look jumbo, the candy portion is only about 2" x 1/2".
