Pure Genius: Pure Inventions Green Tea Extract

We’re going to start with a disclaimer. This week’s NIBBLE is a product that normally would reside in the NutriNibbles section of our website, TheNibble.com.  But we thought it was so special that we interrupt our regularly-scheduled program of sumptuous foods and beverages to bring you a health and wellness product. It has no calories whatsoever, no caffeine, no artificial sweeteners...and helps you rack up those eight glasses of water a day with no extra effort. (Everyone’s ears should have perked up at at least one of these.)

The Pure Inventions line of green tea extracts is the brainchild of Lori Mulligan and Lynne Gerhards, Certified Clinical Nutritionists and partners in a New Jersey practice. Their green tea concentrates and a cranberry concentrate were formulated as part of their nutritional counseling program. The products were such a hit that they grew by word of mouth and were sold to friends of clients and then to spas, health food stores, boutiques...and found their way to THE NIBBLE.

The concentrates are sold in traditional brown medicine bottles with droppers. One dropperful mixed with 6 ounces of water equals the polyphenol* benefits of 15 tea bags. Plus, it’s a delicious and refreshing beverage—and if for some reason you don’t like the flavor of green tea, there are several fruit flavors that largely mask the green tea taste.

In fact, when we first saw the line-up of Green Tea, Peach Green Tea, Pineapple Coconut Green Tea, Raspberry Green Tea, Tropical Green Tea, and Vanilla Green Tea, we guessed that some flavors would be more successful than others.  Surprise!  They are all excellent: natural, clean flavors that deliver the best of what they promise. To show that we put skin in the game, we opened up our wallet and bought one of each on the spot—not an insignificant investment, because it’s expensive to create concentrates of this quality.

The concentrates are made of caffeine-free green tea extract, purified water and natural flavors. Except for the plain Green Tea flavor, they are sweetened with a proprietary mixture of lo han kuo, stevia, kudzu, and Chinese licorice extracts (these are natural and calorie-free fruit, leaf, or root extracts).

The healthy effect of green tea is due to catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG, a powerful antioxidant that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. Thrombosis, the formation of abnormal blood clots, is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.

Another polyphenol, resveratrol, keeps the French healthier than one might think. Despite a high incidence of smoking and a diet rich in fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans. Researchers attribute this to consumption of red wine which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits their negative effects.  In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers and they consume a diet high in sodium.

Cranberry Plus

For those who seek the particular health benefits of cranberry, Cranberry Plus concentrate contains the whole berry, including the skin, natural fibers and seeds. It is rich in plant substances, vitamins, minerals and fiber. One would have to consume 10 to 12 glasses of conventional cranberry juice products to get the equivalent nutrients in one glass of Cranberry Plusand intake all of the sugar and calories in the juice that are absent from Pure Inventions.

As with the green tea extracts, Cranberry Plus is 100% natural, non-caloric, caffeine and alcohol free, and delicious. It contains elderberry extracts and the same calorie-free sweeteners as the green tea extracts.

Get Your Droppers Ready

Kids, athletes, dieters, students, executives, ladies who lunch—everyone who wants a powerful dose of antioxidants or simply a healthier alternative to available beverages—is a customer for Pure Inventions. Although glass, the small bottles of extract are easily portable.

  • You can drink the beverages hot or cold. Try Vanilla Green Tea as a post-dinner sweet drink.
  • Serve it in a glass with a slice of lemon or lime, like iced tea.
  • Fill a pitcher, add ice cubes and mix in slices of oranges and other citrus fruits.
  • Add a dropper or two to your water bottle to boost your nutrition throughout the day.
  • Combine the Peach, Raspberry and Tropical Green Teas in one glass for a “fruit punch.”
  • Add Cranberry Plus to club soda with a splash of fresh squeezed lemon or fresh orange for a “spritzer.”
  • Vanilla Green Tea in club soda tastes like cream soda.
  • Vanilla Green Tea and Peach Green Tea combined together taste like peaches and cream.

Playing soda jerk with the concentrates is fun, but unlike most soft drinks you might have instead, they are a beneficial food. If you’re seeking an alternative to caffeine or a natural beverage alternative, your search ends here.

If you’re seeking the Fountain of Youth, and want another way to reap the benefits of green tea, drink Pure Inventions and let those antioxidants battle your free radicals.

Or just enjoy something new, different, tasty, healthy...and calorie-free!
