The Peanut Roaster:
Pick of Pecans

WE REGRET THAT THIS ITEM HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED BY THE MANUFACTURER

We taste a lot of nuts over the course of the year. With homage to Pvt. Bubba Blue in Forrest Gump, there are almonds, cashews, macadamias, peanuts, pecans, pistachios, walnuts, and mixed nuts; salted, unsalted, dry roasted, honey roasted, organic, spiced, candied, candy-coated and chocolate-enrobed. We enjoy them all; but we positively flipped for the line of Oriental Pecans from The Peanut Roaster.

Marrying Eastern spices with Western crunch, this terrific-tasting trio of Chinese and Japanese spiced pecans begins with fresh pecan halves that are honey roasted. The three zesty spice blends are packed with personality:

Orange Szechwan’s orange, cinnamon and honey flavors will appeal to anyone who loves Orange Beef, Orange Chicken, or just a beautifully flavored and versatile pecan.

Wasabi Ginger will be the darling of wasabi lovers—the heat of horseradish is counter-balanced with the sweetness of the honey and the result is exciting.

Teriyaki infuses true teriyaki flavor into the pecans: another spot-on recipe.

Each flavor is so good, you must have all three, and offer all three to guests who—if they seek exciting new flavors—will be enthralled. Yet these plump, flavorful nuts are not just for cocktails and snacking. Since Chinese cuisine uses nuts in main dishes and desserts, we tried doing the same to great success:

  • Orange Pecans as a garnish with beef, Wasabi Ginger Pecans with lamb chops, Teriyaki Pecans with chicken and fish dishes
  • Orange Pecans on vanilla ice cream and with caramelized bananas
  • Wasabi Ginger Pecans with lime sorbet and with caramelized bananas—definitely exotic, but we liked it.

You’ll find creative uses of your own.

The colorful tins make special gifts for fellow foodies. The online store only sells three of one kind, not the more logical “set” of one of each flavor. But, while nine tins of nuts (three of each flavor) may seem like a lot, if you love these fusion pecans as much as we do, you’ll be glad to have the extra inventory on hand for guests and gifts. We quickly ran through one can of each without having any guests at all.
