Bosch Tassimo Coffee System

Page 4: A Machine With Smart Engineering

Tassimo Engineering

Aside from making a good cup of coffee in a minute, there’s a lot to appreciate about the Bosch Tassimo’s engineering:

  • Smart Technology. Everything about this machine makes good sense. The non-biodegradable hard plastic cups with foil tops are needed because they actually brew the beverage inside, using a unique inverse flow action that can’t happen in a paper pod; the foil top contains the bar code technology that ensures the right brew temperature, time and amount of water. And it’s quiet, too—the loudest noise is the hissing steam.
  • Adjustable Size. Unlike some other single-serve units, the Tassimo accommodates any reasonable size cup or mug, including a travel mug (however, as this is a single-serve machine, you’ll need to brew two servings to fill it).
  • Easy To Fill. It’s easy to add more water to the top of the water tank. In fact, of all the systems we have tried, we like Tassimo the best for ease of filling the tank.
  • Great Water Filter. We love the water filter made by Mavea: Certainly, it’s one of the reasons why the coffee tastes so good. The machine comes with two filters; additional ones are $9.95.
  • No Water Spillover. We’ve tried other systems that generate a reasonable amount of spillover water that needs to be emptied from the drainage cup. We had no such problem with the Tassimo.
  • Handy Storage. The cleaning disc stores conveniently in the back of the unit, so you don’t have to wonder where you put it.
  • Size. The small footprint, 11 inches high by 8 inches wide by 13-1/4 inches deep, is narrower than the original machine, and of a Tassimo Disk Carousel Caddymore durable construction. The power button is conveniently on the front. We turn it off right after brewing, since it is instantly ready to brew when we turn it on—no “warm-up” required.
  • T Disc Carousel. There’s a nifty T disc carousel made by a third party, to let you organize the cups and make deciding what you’ll have even more fun.

Keep your T-disks in a convenient
    disk carousel.

We tried a unit in a fetching dark red color—more dazzling, most people felt, than the basic black, and a color that contributed to the overall allure of the Tassimo experience.
