Roast Chicken
While many roast chickens look beautiful, Just Bare natural chicken tastes as good as it looks—maybe even better! Photo by Edward O’Neil | IST.

Just Bare Natural Chicken

All Natural Chicken To Cluck About!

CAPSULE REPORT: There’s a new brand of chicken in town with a gleaming badge of purity. Just Bare Chicken was selected by the National Grocers Association as one of the top five new products for 2009 and by the NIBBLE editors as the best-tasting chicken we’ve had in a long time. It’s fresh and all natural, with no antibiotics, no hormones and farm-to-fork traceability. But we’d pay double for chicken that tastes this good.

Just Bare is a new brand distributed by Gold’n Plump Poultry of St. Cloud, Minnesota, a family-owned provider of premium chicken products that partners with about 300 family farmers in Minnesota and Wisconsin. For us, it was love at first bite, and another resounding endorsement to support independent family farms that produce wholesome, high-quality products. Frank Perdue may have said that “It takes a tough Just Bare Chicken Drumsticksman to make a tender chicken,” but it is more true that families who have loved their livestock (or their farmland) for generations take greater pride in raising their crops rather than the bottom-line approach used by Big Agribusiness. They want you, the consumer, to have the finest eating experience possible. So, track down the nearest Just Bare chicken. Not only does it taste great, but it’s on the green bandwagon, “honoring the earth with a lighter footprint, raising better food conscientiously” (we’ve paraphrased the company message). Even the clear packaging that provides a 360° view of the lovely poultry is recyclable—and you can trace which family farm the specific package of chicken originally came from. Talk about farm to fork!

Moist, Delectable Natural Chicken

If you’ve only had typical supermarket chicken, you’re in for a treat. Just Bare chickens are vegetable-fed and raised cage-free. But it’s not only these two factors that create the moist, succulent, buttery-textured flesh with such good chicken flavor: Good hen genetics are also at play here.

We couldn’t have been happier with everything we tried:

  • Breast Fillets & Breast Tenders
All folks who prefer dark meat (and we’re part of that group): You’ll be shocked at how moist and delicious Just Bare’s white meat is. Bring it on!
  • Just Bare Chicken ThighsBoneless, Skinless Thighs
We buy a lot of this part, so we especially appreciated the beautiful hand-trimming. We have to do a lot of trimming of excess fat on boneless, skinless thighs of the premium brand we usually buy.
  • Drumsticks
A very popular part in most households. We’d say that these drumsticks went very quickly, but so did all of the Just Bare chicken pieces.
  • Whole Chicken
Here again, the roasted white meat was the moistest we’ve ever had from a roasted bird, except in preparations where pats of butter were inserted under the skin (or other high calorie butter bath recipes). Alas, the package informs you that there are no giblets or neck. Why not? We love those giblets!

We’re not gamblers, but we bet that you may switch to Just Bare chicken.
