30 Different Organic Tea Blends

Zhena is a busy blender: Zhena’s Gypsy Tea sells 30 different varieties of blended hot and iced teas.

  • Zhena's Gypsy Earl GreyThere are nine black teas that range from Passionate Peach to Coconut Chai and include classics like their Uplifting Earl Grey.
  • There are seven different kinds of green tea and iced green tea, one of the healthiest being Goji Berry Pomegranate Iced Green Tea, a veritable powerhouse of antioxidants.
  • The milder white tea is made in three blends: Ambrosia White Plum (a white/green blend), Sense of Peace (with peppermint) and a Mango Ginger White Iced Tea.
  • Some of the most impressive teas Zhena makes are the six herbal ones. These include aromatic Brazilian Berry, Red Lavender and Blueberry Açaí Iced Tea. In all, there are five iced teas that would make for wonderful warm-weather beverages, like the Pineapple Green or the Strawberry Osmanthus.

Amid the cornucopia of choices, the website offers some help in choosing one’s perfect tea. Beyond the standard pages full of descriptions and suggestions, there is an aromatherapy wheel that helps select a tea by benefits and flavor.

What We Tried

No, not all 30: We sampled five teas in sachet form—a sampling of black, green, green and white, red and herbal teas.

  • Ambrosia White Plum. The enticing scent of plum and strawberry is prevalent, and the fragrance truly nectarous (sweet and fragrant). The flavor of the tea is delicate, but ideal for a fruity tea lover with the added benefit of the antioxidant-rich white and green tea blend. The rose petals, strawberry leaves and stevia leaves are added to the tea blend, and the plum is a natural extract. The rose is extremely mild, but it does add a floral note. The addition of the fruit and stevia creates a sweeter style of tea with no added calories.
  • Gypsy Earl Green. Upon opening the tin, the citrus aroma is bracing yet sensual. Lighter and sweeter than the original Earl Grey made from Black Tea, Zhena's Peach Teathe traditional oil of Bergamot makes this tea familiar and comforting. It has a mild taste with some layering from a touch of ginger root and Valencia orange peel and a fresh herbaceousness from Bulgarian rose.
  • Passionate Peach Black Tea. With its immediate peachy aroma, one is surprised at the uniqueness of this black tea. The rich bitterness of traditional black tea blends perfectly with the subtle spice of ginger root in the background, complemented by the sweetness of Georgia peach flavor. The website even gives beauty application advice, stating that this tea makes an ideal rinse for tighter pores, and an anti-oxidant booster for skin.
  • Precious Lemon Rooibos. This tempting blend of lemon myrtle, rooibos, lavender and nourishing honeybush is subdued, yet satisfying. Osmanthus flower lends itself to the scent, but this is truly a tea for lemon lovers.
  • Red Lavender. A fabulous red lavender rooibos tea brews into a rich red liquor while adding a relaxing, enticing fragrance to the air. The perfect aromatherapy tea, it’s like drinking in Provence, even though it was grown in South Africa. It’s wonderful before bed, or anytime one needs to just sit back and reflect. The website gives a beauty application for this tea as well: To relieve puffy or red eyes, simply soak two tea bags in cold water and let rest on your eyelids for 10 minutes. We’d rather drink it.

As you can see, the teas make lovely gifts and also spread a beautiful message. Given a “bouquet in every cup,” they’d be appreciated by anyone who wants to take a break to drink some tea and smell the flowers.
