Cuisipro:

Four-Sided Box Grater

The most glamorous box grater we’ve found is also a breeze to use, featuring extra sharp grating surfaces, and ergonomic, non-slip handle and removable base. Measurements on the outside of the grater make it easy to know how much you’ve grated and how much more you have to go. But perhaps our favorite feature is the inside of the base unit doubles as a ginger grater. A treasure for every kitchen.

Friis:

Coffee Savor

If you savor your coffee, you can savor it longer with the Friis Coffee Savor. As soon as coffee beans are roasted, they begin to break down and degrade the original flavor. Ground coffee, which has many more air surfaces, deteriorates even faster. The Friis Coffee Savor keeps your coffee fresh by locking in flavor while blocking out light, air and moisture. A valve vents away the carbon dioxide that is the enemy of flavor. When stored in a cool, dry place, your coffee stays fresh longer. We tried it, loved it, and now have three! (We taste a lot of different coffees at THE NIBBLE).

Microplane:

Mandoline

We recently upgraded the mandoline in THE NIBBLE’s test kitchen to this snazzy model. If you don’t use a mandoline for fast, even slicing of fruit and vegetables, give yourself the gift of one—and also gift your favorite cooks. Designed for both the professional chef and the home cook, it’s better than anything else we’ve tried at this affordable price. The contoured shape and non-slip feet mean added strength and stability when slicing. The ergonomic soft-touch handle is both comfortable to use and to ensure a safe, sure grip. The separate protective piece keeps fingers and hands from harm’s way. See a video showing how easy it is to use one.

Sowden Oskar:

Softbrew Coffee Brewer or Loose Tea Brewer

Before we knew that this handsome coffee pot was for coffee, we used it to brew tea and were very happy at how efficiently we could remove and toss the loose tea leaves (they go into the stainless steel cylinder). Then we discovered that this taller pot is meant for coffee, and a shorter, rounder style is for tea. (But you can break the rules.) For brewing coffee, the removable cylinder is meant to provide French press-style coffee without the “press.” Instead of plunging down, you let the coffee steep and in 4 to 8 minutes, your coffee is ready. While there were no grounds in our coffee when we poured it into the cup, it wasn’t as strong as French-pressed coffee. But we definitely plan to continue using the Sowden Softbrew to make tea.
