THE NIBBLE Launches Gourmet Food Blog

 

 

October 1, 2007, New York — THE NIBBLE, the online magazine about specialty food (TheNibble.com), has converted its weekly specialty food news column to a daily food blog.

Beginning today, readers of the online Gourmet News & Views column will be directed to Blog.TheNibble.com. The thousands of readers who subscribed to the column’s weekly RSS feed will now be getting daily nibbles instead of one weekly news feed.

“Launching a blog had not been our priority,” said Karen Hochman, founder of THE NIBBLE, “because we already publish new material every day. It actually was the technology benefits of a blog, not the information dissemination, that led to the launch. It proved to be the easiest way for us to provide readers with the option of getting notices whenever we add new content in any topic of their interest. We already had dedicated feeds for our Diet Nibbles, Kosher Nibbles and NutriNibbles sections. But faced with adding 70 more feeds for each of the different categories of food we review, from chocolate to bottled water to caviar, a blog was the answer.”

While there are an estimated 48,000 blogs that cover food, the majority are not written by professional journalists. And few food blogs focus on the best specialty food and gourmet food, as THE NIBBLE’s Gourmet Food News & Views does. Many are single-food or cuisine-focused—pizza, burgers, Italian or Japanese food, for example—or concentrate on cooking and recipes, restaurants and local city food scenes.

“For foodies who want to keep on top of product news and trends, this should be a top food blog,” Hochman said. Plus, it provides capsule reviews of all of the articles and food reviews in THE NIBBLE magazine, as well as information about contests and freebies from fine food companies.
