The Schnapps

This recipe is handy during the months when fresh watermelon isn’t available.

  • Mix 1 part vodka and 1/2 part Dekuyper Pucker Watermelon Sweet and Sour Schnapps (or other watermelon liqueur).
  • When watermelon is in season, add crushed fresh fruit to the mix.

The Watermelon Au Kurant

This one marries watermelon and black currant. “Au Kurant,” which refers to the black currant vodka, is a pun: “au courant” means fashionable in French.

  • 1 cup watermelon, seeded and diced
  • 1-1⁄2  ounces  Absolut Kurant
  • 1 tablespoon Triple sec
  • 1 tablespoon Rose’s lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon crème de cassis
    (blackcurrant liqueur)
  • Pickled watermelon rind for garnish

Virgin Watermelontini

For those who aren’t drinking:

  • Watermelon juice or puréed
    watermelon
  • Lime juice
  • A splash of cranberry juice
  • Garnish

Watermelon Gin Martini

A return to the classic gin Martini, modernized with watermelon.

  • 2 shots gin
  • 1/2 shot simple syrup
  • Lots of cubed watermelon flesh
  • Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a martini glass.
  • Garnish with a watermelon wedge.

Watermelon Wave

This is a tequila drink, not a martini; but it rocks. The proportions are for a pitcher full.

  • 4 ounces blanco tequila
  • 3 ounces GranGala Triple Orange
    Liqueur
  • 3 ounces maraschino liqueur
  • 20 ounces fresh watermelon juice
  • 2 ounces pomegranate juice
  • 2 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • Watermelon wedges for garnish

Preparation

  1. Buy watermelon juice or make it by removing seeds from flesh and processing in a blender or food processor until smooth.
  2. Pour all ingredients into a pitcher. Stir well.

Strain the mixture into goblets over ice.

Garnish with cubes of watermelon on cocktail picks or use wedges perched on the glass rim.
