Liquid Delights For Discriminating Palates
Beverages are the fastest-growing category of specialty foods. The industry has given birth to beverages that inspire the palate with creative combinations and distinct flavors. Sodas made with 100% fruit juice, coffees roasted in small batches with added value nutrients, a myriad of whole leaf teas that change the flavor of what we grew up with as “tea,” and wonderful mineral waters, plus specialty water infused with vitamins! And these are just a sample of the wonderful alternatives introduced to a category that had a few years back had changed little since the Kennedy administration.

Nibble Tip
Make “designer” ice by freezing fruit, herbs, or small vegetables into your ice cubes. For sweet drinks, add a raspberry, small strawberry, red grape, mint leaf or lemon peel curl to each section of the ice cube tray. For savory drinks like Bloody Marys, use a grape tomato or small basil leaves. For ice water, quartered cucumbers (leave the peel for color) and lemons are pretty and add a tad of flavor.
These flavored cubes were made with iSi Orka’s great ice cube trays.
