Granola Bar Reviews

Odwalla Nourishing Food Bars

“Made with Fruit & Whole Cereal Grains.” Certified kosher by The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations. Odwalla.com

  • Berries GoMega. “Contains 21% Organic Ingredients, 1000 mg Omega 3’s from Flaxseed.” First ingredient: brown rice syrup. I don’t know what the source of my problem with this bar is, but it tastes horrible; I actually spit out the bite I took. Thinking I might simply have gotten a bad bar, I bought another, making sure to check the expiration date…but the same thing happened when I tasted the second bar. Per bar (62g): 220 calories, 45 calories from fat, 0.5g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 230mg sodium, 5g fiber, 20g sugars, 5g protein.
  • Choco-walla Original. “Contains 30% Organic Ingredients, Good Source of Fiber & Six Essential Vitamins & Minerals Including Antioxidant Vitamins A, C, & E.” First ingredient: brown rice syrup. Does taste somewhat of chocolate, but there’s an even stronger flavor of dates. Some chewiness. OK, but nothing to write home about. Per bar (56g): 210 calories, 45 calories from fat, 1.5g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 75mg sodium, 5g fiber, 16g sugars, 4g protein.

ProBar

“The Whole Food Meal Made with Organic Ingredients, 100% Vegan, Non-GMO.” Bars also contain Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids in varying amounts. Marketed as meal replacements. TheProBar.com

  • Koka Moka. First ingredient: oats. Dark in color, with an aroma of both coffee and chocolate. Unhappily, the bar doesn’t taste like either. Chewy, grainy, with a decent quantity of dried fruit but a taste I disliked overall, possibly partly from the grain-sweetened chocolate chips. Per bar (85g): 360 calories, 170 fat calories, 5g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 30 mg sodium, 6g fiber, 24g sugars, 9g protein.
  • Whole Berry Blast. First ingredient: oats. Quite sweet, but some of the sweetness is from dried fruit. Bar is sticky to the touch. Not bad overall except for the bad-tasting carob chips. Per bar (85g): 370 calories, 160 calories from fat, 5g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 50mg sodium, 6g fiber, 3 g sugars, 8g protein.

Pure Bliss Organics

Certified organic. “Vegan, Wheat Free.” Manufacturer states that one bar (67g or 2.4 oz.) is two servings. Pureblissorganics.com

  • Cranberry Lemon Premium Whole Food Energy Bar. First ingredient: organic oats. Lemon presence knocks down other flavors except for the cranberry. Chewy, with some crunch from the rice crisps. Good number of cranberries but otherwise not special. Per 1/2 bar (33.5g or 1.2 oz.): 130 calories, 45 calories from fat, 1.75g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 10mg sodium, 2g fiber, 8g sugars, 3g protein.
  • Naughty But Nice Peanut Butter Chocolate Granola Bar. First ingredient: organic oats. Dry, chewy, with a little crunch. Some chocolate and peanut butter flavors, but a bitter aftertaste. Per 1/2 bar (33.5g or 1.2 oz.): 150 calories, 60 calories from fat, 1.75g saturated fat, no cholesterol, 10mg sodium, 3g fiber, 3g sugars, 5g protein.
