6. Pressure Cooker

Enjoy a great home-cooked meal, save time, save calories. Is there a better promise than that? A pressure cooker can deliver “two-hour taste in 20 minutes.” No fear: This is not your mother’s pressure cooker. There’s no hissing or rattling and nothing blows up. It’s a must-have appliance for any busy person.

Instead of long, slow cooking in a crock pot, pressure cooking is short and fast. You can cook high-fiber, low-fat foods in record time, preserving vitamins and essential nutrients. And pressure cooking creates a greener kitchen, since faster cooking means less fuel burned. Nutritious black beans, for example, that normally take 2.5 hours to fully cook, are done in 10-12 minutes in a pressure cooker. The cooking time for brown rice is cut in half, to 20-22 minutes.

  • This 6-quart electric pressure cooker reduces cooking times by 70%.
  • Cook acorn squash in a jiffy. Poach apples with speed. Make brisket, rice, your favorite beef, poultry and seafood dishes. Make quick and easy soups.
  • Not dieting? You can even make cheesecake, mashed potatoes and risotto. In fact, you can make just about anything in a pressure cooker, at a fraction of the time.

7. Electric Wok

Does Wolfgang Puck stir-fry his food? We don’t know, but you can cook fast and healthy food using minimal oil in the Wolfgang Puck 14" Electric Wok. This versatile appliance can also be used for braising or sautéing.

  • Unlike a conventional wok, an electric wok lets you control the full range of temperatures: warm, minimum, medium, high and sear.
  • A removable steel half rack allows you to drain or to keep stir-fried foods warm without direct heat.
  • The tempered glass lid lets you monitor the cooking without lifting the lid.

Stir-frying makes everything taste better, and it’s fun. Take a wok on the healthy side and make stir-frys part of your regular meal planning.

360 Cookware (Vapor Cookware or Waterless Cookware)

We didn’t believe it until we saw an in-person demo; then we got our own cookware. Honest-to-goodness, it’s worth the investment: You need zero added fat or liquid to cook with these pots and pans. It’s thanks to a brand-new Vapor Technology that uses the moisture inside the food to cook it fast—and good. It couldn’t be more perfect for calorie-counters. The artisan-crafted 360 Cookware creates juicy, intensely flavorful, vibrantly colored, vitamin- and mineral-rich meals simply by cooking food utilizing its own natural moisture. The lids are specially designed to create a Vapor Seal that captures heat and keeps it moving around your food like a steam-driven convection oven. And talk about green:

  • Meats brown and taste great.
  • The company “set the standard for green manufacturing in the cookware industry.”  360 Cookware is so heat responsive and energy efficient that you can cook only over medium heat or lower.
  • You can use the cookware
    for conventional cooking as well.
