Bake ’mmm Bagels

Organic, Kosher Bagels, Hot From Your Oven

CAPSULE REPORT: All natural, organic- and kosher-certified bagels with no sugar added are a real find. We protest the unnecessary sugar thrown into most bagel recipes. From your freezer to table in 12 minutes, these 200-calorie bagels are the right size and the right stuff.

If your idea of happiness is a breakfast or brunch of piping-hot bagels, your dream can come true every day. Excellent Bake ’mmm frozen boiled bagels, in standard and gourmet flavors, are shipped directly to your door. Keep them in the freezer or refrigerator, ready to pop into the oven, where they emerge hot and fragrant in just 8 to 12 minutes. Some flavors go beyond ordinary bagels: They’re gourmet breads.

Bake ’mmm Bagels are even patented. According to the manufacturer, their exclusive process creates a bagel with complex carbohydrates that have a lower Glycemic Index than standard bagels. While we haven’t studied the science (you can read it on their website), we have studied the nutrition panel, and kudos are due for making a good-size bagel (100g, 3-1/4-inches in diameter and one inch high) that has as few as 195 calories. We did a lab test calorie count on our local bagels a couple of years ago. With all that sugar and added bulk, the plain bagels were 600 calories—without the cream cheese.

Bake ’mmm Bagels are boiled, then frozen, so the last step in bagel-making—baking to a crisp, golden brown—takes place in your own oven or toaster. Being a bagel baker is not only tasty, it’s fun!

Varieties Of Bake ’mmm Frozen Bagels

Big City Original Bagel

This basic bagel is fine for those who like things plain. But there’s so much more excitement in this line. (195 calories)

Cinnamon Raisin Spice Bagel

Kudos for a cinnamon raisin bagel that isn’t loaded with extra sugar. The raisins and spices provide all the sweetness needed. The subtle charm may be a shock to those used to overly- sweet commercial cinnamon raisin bagels. (190 calories)

Cinnamon Raisin Bagel
Cinnamon Raisin Spice Bagel: The “no added sugar” recipe lets the flavor of the whole wheat and the raisins shine through.
Rosemary Bagel
Rosemary Greek Olive Bagel: With artisan bread flavor, it can be served with a fine soup or salad.

Roasted Garlic Bagel

Good sweet garlic flavor (not enough to be overpowering) makes this flavor versatile for cream cheese and smoked salmon or for sandwiches. (205 calories)

Rosemary Greek Olive Bagel

This classic Mediterranean pairing makes a very elegant bread. Try it with fresh, spreadable goat cheese instead of cream cheese. (200 calories)

Tuscan Herb Tomato Bagel

This bagel was a favorite, with all the flavors of a really good pizza. As the Bake ’mmm folks point out, one slice of pizza has about 500 calories per slice and more than 25% of the recommended dairy intake of fat. A Tuscan Herb Tomato Bake ’mmm Bagel has about 240 calories and zero fat. Melt some mozzarella on this bagel for your pizza fix. Add a slice of tomato and some fresh basil, too. (245 calories)

Tomato Bagel
Tuscan Herb Tomato Bagel: It smells and tastes like a good pizza.
Whole Wheat Bagel
Whole Wheat Bagel: Get your whole grains without added sugar.

Whole Wheat Bagel

After all of the gourmet bagel flavors above, it’s hard to end (in alphabetical order) with plain whole wheat. But, this whole wheat bagel is truly delicious. If you’re looking to get your three servings of whole grains per day, this bagel provides two of them, painlessly. (195 calories)

Hot Bagels In Minutes

Garlic Bagel
Garlic bagel: With cream cheese or as a sandwich base.

You can make the bagels:

  • In The Oven: Bake them in a convection, electric, gas or toaster oven per the instructions on the box.
  • In A Toaster: Defrost bagels in the microwave or in the refrigerator overnight, slice and toast.

You may have to play around with cooking temperatures and times to get the inside texture that you prefer—a drier versus a moister bread.

Any bread hot from the oven is delicious. A bagel is extra-special. And a Bake ’mmm bagel is very convenient.
