Bridal Shower Bounty

Gourmet Favors Your Guests Will Savor

Legend has it, the bridal shower originated in Holland, when a wealthy young woman fell in love with a poor miller, and her father, hoping to discourage the union, refused to pay her dowry. The woman’s friends rallied, “showering” her with gifts to help her set up her new home.

Today’s bridal showers are, thankfully, happier occasions, though the objective of helping the couple stock their new home hasn't changed. While there isn’t much room for creativity where the gifts are concerned—the etiquette books tell us to stick to the registry—the shower favors are a different story, giving us a chance to inject some personality into the traditional event.

We, of course, tend toward the food-related favors. Here, some of our favorites.

When the shower is over and it’s time to start planning for the big day, read our article on gourmet wedding favors.
