Belle Chevre is a  previous Top Pick Of The Week honoree for its outstanding goat cheese spreads.

Now, these outstanding cheesemakers have earned their second Top Pick, for their scrumptious goat cheese cheesecake—actually a divine mix of goat cheese and cream cheese.

Cheesecake is one of those foods that either excites people or  doesn’t interest them in the least. We’re part of the excited group.

When Belle Chevre’s cheesecake arrived, we devoured it in three days, all by our lonesome. Sorry, but we simply didn’t have a crumb to spare for anyone. It was “only” six inches in diameter (27 ounces, $29.95).

Now, we’re gifting these luscious cheesecakes to our favorite cheesecake fans, and taking the opportunity to divert a few our way. It’s a gift people will remember for a long time.

  • The mixture of goat cheese and cream cheese means that the cheesecake is lighter than an all-cream cheese cake. But it’s still quite substantial—just not leaden, like some all-cream cheese cakes can be.
  • Notes of lemon zest and vanilla abound. The graham cracker crust  sets off the filling perfectly
  • Anything uneaten can be frozen. (As if!)

Order them online at BelleChevre.com. You, and anyone who receives one of these cheesecakes, are in for a special treat.

Something You Probably Don’t Know About Cheesecake

Cheesecake isn’t cake: It’s a cheese-flavored custard-like pie. Think about it: There are no flour-based layers (cake) but a filling on top of a crust (pie). The cream cheese substitutes for the cream in a custard; the other ingredients remain the same (eggs, sugar, vanilla).

In a reverse situation, Boston Cream Pie is not a pie but a layer cake filled with custard and iced with chocolate.

Lovers of New York-style cheesecake should bake our mom’s cheesecake recipe: two pounds of cheesecake with a sour cream topping.
