WHAT IT IS: Steel cut oats enhanced with egg whites and ground flax seed.
WHY IT’S DIFFERENT: The egg whites add protein to the oatmeal, and ground flax seed adds omega 3s, fiber and more nutritional benefits. The oatmeal can be used in all recipes that require oatmeal—from cookies to meatloaf—and can be ground into powder for health drinks, too.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Oatmeal is healthy, delicious comfort food...and Earth Born Plus is better for you!

What To Serve With Oatmeal

To everything, there is a purpose. We eat plenty of refined white sugar, in its place—and its place is in candy, cake and ice cream. As long as you’re eating healthy oatmeal, try one of the better sweeteners.

Better, you ask? Sure! Did you know that honey, maple syrup, and a wonderful sweeter called agave syrup (or agave nectar) are more nutritious, lower glycemic sweeteners? They don’t have most of their nutritive value stripped away, as white sugar does. And lower glycemic foods offer numerous benefits, including:

  • Lesser fluctuation in blood glucose and insulin levels
  • Reduced blood cholesterol levels
  • Reduce hunger/feel fuller for longer
  • Prolonged physical endurance

See for more information.

Nutritive (Caloric) Sweeteners

Non-Nutritive Sweeteners
(Calorie-Free or Low Calorie)

  • Equal, Splenda, etc. (chemical sweeteners)
  • Stevia (a natural sweetener)

*You can purchase vanilla sugar, or make your own by placing a vanilla bean in a sealed pound canister of granulated turbinado sugar for at least week.

Read more about the different types of nutritive and non-nutritive, artificial and natural sweeteners in our Artificial Sweeteners Glossary. See our Sugar and Syrup Glossary for a comprehensive listing of all types of sweeteners.

Fruits, Nuts & Spices

  • Almonds, pecans, walnuts or other favorite nuts
  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Berries (use frozen berries when fresh aren’t in season, and sweeten them as needed)
  • Coconut
  • Compote
  • Dried Fruit
  • Stone fruit (nectarines, peaches, plums)
  • Cinnamon, crystallized ginger, nutmeg
  • Anything else that you enjoy

A dab of butter is delicious, too, as it works into your daily fat allowance. Ask your healthcare practitioner how much butter is allowed by the cholesterol offsetting benefits of the oatmeal.

If you don’t have the 20 minutes in the morning to cook the steel cut oats, you can make a batch in advance, refrigerate them, and microwave your daily cup. Speaking of refrigeration, fine print on the container advises you to refrigerate the oats for freshness after you have opened the jar.
